Лечение фобий

Panic attacks are uncontrollable attacks of unexplained fear with physical manifestations – tremors, increased heart rate, increased sweating.

Phobias are uncontrollable fears that are not subjected to logic. Moreover, phobias have a specific object of fear.

Therapy of panic attacks and phobias

Since phobias and panic attacks have psychological reasons, we focus on psychotherapy while treatment. The choice of treatment method depends on the specific case, history and dynamics of the development of the disorder.
Treatment at Patonych OnLine Center is held on a voluntary basis. The client getting day care online help leads a normal life. We do not isolate the client from the familiar environment, but our consultants provide 24/7 support. The client works with a psychotherapist for 2 hours a day, and also attends various therapy groups and activities in time planned specially for that.
While the client gets help is in the online hospital, we carry out at the same time therapeutic work with family and friends, creating a favourable supportive space.

Symptoms of panic attack or fobia

Panic attack starts suddenly. A person has a sudden strong fear accompanied by physical symptoms – increasing of heart rate, sweating, chest pains, dizziness, limbs may get numb. These symptoms make the person feel even worse, it seems to the one that he is having a heart attack.
The symptoms of a phobia are similar in their manifestations to a panic attack. A person experiences fear, palpitations, tremors, dizziness, but this fear has a reason – the symptoms appear in a specific situation, for example, when traveling in an elevator or while seeing a spider.

Types of panic attacks and phobias

Panic attacks and phobias create inconveniences and restrictions, for example, a person suffering from claustrophobia is afraid to ride the elevator, or a person with acrophobia is afraid to be on upper floors, but a person with panic attacks is afraid to be alone and leave the house – suddenly he can get an attack. Ultimately, both phobias and panic attacks can lead to complete desocialization.

Panic attacks are divided into three main types:

  • A spontaneous panic attack is sudden and has no apparent reasons.
  • Situational panic attack appears in connection with a trigger situation or its anticipation
  • Conditionally situational panic attack occurs after taking substances that alter consciousness (coffee, hormonal drugs, etc.).

Phobias can be so varied that it is sometimes hard to believe that some fears exist. The most common phobias are: arachnophobia (fear of spiders), claustrophobia (fear of closed spaces), acrophobia (fear of height), aerophobia (fear of flying in airplanes).

There are very interesting and unusual types of phobias, such as xanthophobia (fear of yellow colour), when a person may feel fear hearing just one word “yellow”. Or nomophobia (fear of communication absence in mobile devices).

Timing of therapy

Therapy of panic attacks and phobias takes up to 2 months in an online hospital. Then we transfer the client to an outpatient program – he continues to work with his psychotherapist, but not in such an intensive mode.

On condition that a client started treatment on a voluntary basis, that he is involved in recovery process and strictly follows recommendations of the therapist, rehabilitation will take about 2 months.

Our program is aimed at the fastest recovery of the client. And the support of the team and the atmosphere of the centre helps him to socialize as quickly as possible and to return to his usual pace of life.

During therapy, the client learns to work with his feelings and gradually, owing to the careful support of the specialists of our centre, begins to perceive the world as a safe place.
